📜 History
Amboli is a peaceful hill station located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, close to the Goa border. Long before it became a popular tourist destination, Amboli was covered with dense forests and was home to local tribal communities who depended on nature for their daily lives. During the British period, this region gained importance because of its pleasant weather and strategic location in the Sahyadri mountain range. The British developed roads through Amboli Ghat to connect the Konkan coast with the Deccan Plateau, making travel and trade much easier. The area has also witnessed several historical events related to the Maratha Empire. Although Amboli itself was not the site of any major battle, nearby forts like Rangana Fort and Mahadevgad Fort played an important role in protecting the surrounding region. These forts were used by Maratha warriors to keep watch on enemy movements through the Western Ghats.
For many years, Amboli remained a quiet village known only to locals. Gradually, nature lovers and travellers started visiting the place because of its cool climate, waterfalls, mist-covered valleys, and rich biodiversity. Today, Amboli is recognised as one of Maharashtra's most beautiful hill stations and is also famous as an ecological hotspot. Despite increasing tourism, the village has managed to preserve its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere, making it a favourite destination for people looking to escape busy city life.
